It’s a question inspired by this post https://www.reddit.com/r/books/s/s2jK2DzFrA by u/oh_sneezeus
Is there any book that is considered a classic or regularly shows up on the “100 books to read before you die” lists and such, you had high expectations before reading and then you ended up absolutey detesting?
For me it’s Blindness by José Saramago, it started off good and then page after page it was becoming more unbearable for me to read, I hated the characters, the things they were doing and the conclusions of the book. I was really disappointed because the plot seemed really good and all I ended up with was frustration.
Is there a book that did the same to you?
The Count of Monte Cristo
It’s just so long and the story isn’t that interesting and I’m totally kidding that book is amazing.
Uhh but for real that book is way too long and i curse the online reviews that said to not get the abridged version. The Count and Don Quixote convinced me to never buy an unabridged classic again. Just not for me.
You had me in the first half. Damn, son!
You monster
You had me in the first half. I was about to freak out.
Jesus I was ready to throw hands.
You got me!
Yooo I was about ready to disintegrate you bro lol
Hard agree. I did an audiobook with a guy who did every accent. It was worth the listen and it made my 15 mile bike rides interesting
i accidentally bought the abridged version from B&N and it was awesome. There were bits that were confusing, but I still loved it.
you got me
Lol you got me in the first half. It was the only answer i was ready to really disagree on 😅
Oh. You tricked me, I thought we would be friends. The book could not get traction on me
Fucking beautiful
It’s on my list to read someday! I have seen the movie a few times ana loved it every time, but haven’t had time for the book yet
Phew. My blood pressure was skyrocketing for a second there.
See now… I don’t understand how people really do like that book. It was boring to me.
You got me
I’ll be honest though, I was led to believe there would be more sword fights and swashbuckling than there ended up being.
Then again I guess that’s what he wrote The Three Musketeers for.
I downvoted you instantly then corrected myself
Phew. Glad I can save my metal bat for another day
Ha ha ha you had me in the 1st part ngl
Ngl. You had me in the 1st half.
You saved yourself in the end
I read it for the first time recently (audio book) and loved it. I felt it was just getting started when it ended.
