  • Can’t fault you, that’s definitely how it reads. I love Plato’s Republic, probably read it 5 times, but it’s more of a long pondering on the nature our souls (in the classical sense of the word, not the modern religious sense) and the hierarchy by which we should try and structure them. It’s not really something you read for plot or character development, and it’s not really meant to give any actual historical insight into any of its characters. It’s debated amongst scholars, but I also land on the side of the argument that it’s not about government either. Plato has other works about the structure of government, and it’s very different from the government used as metaphor in his Republic
