Is there any book that is considered a classic or regularly shows up on the “100 books to read before you die” lists and such, you had high expectations before reading and then you ended up absolutey detesting?
For me it’s Blindness by José Saramago, it started off good and then page after page it was becoming more unbearable for me to read, I hated the characters, the things they were doing and the conclusions of the book. I was really disappointed because the plot seemed really good and all I ended up with was frustration.
Is there a book that did the same to you?
I despise The Catcher in the Rye.
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far to see this.
I only read it recently and it felt like Elon Musk and Donald Trump had fused together to write an autobiography.
Just thought of this one as I got to this comment. Seemed cool as a young teen, but an intolerable bite bore as an adult.
I hate this book so much
Well it gave me some strange opinions about John Lennon, but overall I enjoyed it
This was the book that made me give up on reading the assigned books in school. It broke me.
I absolutely loved this book.
Talk about expectations. I saw something saying that this will resonate with anyone that’s been a teenager.
I’ve never been so insulted in my entire life.
There was nothing compelling interesting or relatable to be.
Why is this comment so far down? It’s such a bad book, I have no idea how anyone could think this is a classic that everyone should read.
It’s like 200 pages of unproductive whining.
