I’ve always considered the statement “I do not like to read” as somewhat dubious. In my opinion, there’s always something interesting to read; perhaps that person simply hasn’t found THE book. However, my friend corrected me, emphasizing that it’s not necessarily the case. Some people genuinely do not enjoy reading books in any form or format.
What’s your take on such cases? Do you believe it’s a matter of finding the right book, or is it indeed a case of liking or disliking reading altogether?

I don’t think anything of them. Some people like dancing, some people don’t. Some people like horseriding, some people don’t. You wouldn’t say "You just haven’t found the right dance yet“ or "You just haven’t found the right riding discipline yet“. You accept the fact that they just don’t like it. Why should that be any different with books?

I agree with your overall message but to be fair I’ve heard this about a lot of different hobbies other than just reading. Some people just really cannot accept that other people are different from them.

For example, I don’t really like videogames at all. I honestly don’t think I have ever had anyone other than crotchety old people just accept that I don’t like them, they always either respond the way OP did about books or project some pretentious anti videogame viewpoint onto me that I never said.

I have also had people refuse to believe I don’t like to dance. Absolutely a thing.
