Viltrumites fight scenes feel so different. And I only notified after Nolan says it, It’s not about the power, is the killing intent. When Mark finally flips the switch, you can see it.

That’s when it actually clicked for me. That’s when I realized why Mark was always getting his ass kicked.

Like, “of course, he wasn’t trying to kill his dad. That’s why he was no match for him.”

I like that Nolan basically told Mark “you better Buck up and win your 1 v 1 because I’m not gonna be able to help you for a while” Viltumite fights are intense and you know that it’s legit a matter of life and death. They aren’t gonna stop until they are dead

When he said that, that occurred to me. Then watching the rest of his fight, it was clear. It didnt matter that they had superpowers, because they both did. It was just the same as two humans fighting, the person prepared to kill the other will win.

The movement and blows are drawn with… Such a sense of force and mass! Not only do we see lucan rotating his hips and throw his whole weight into the strike, we even see Mark’s body ricochet off the ground by like 4 feet.

They did a decent parallel with Atom Eve, when she stopped treating a supervillain as her personal catharsis moment and actually took it seriously, suddenly the fight was over.

Yeah, that specific fight is trivial with her powers. She can’t affect organic material but she’s fighting a guy who’s mostly machine. Just, like… turn all of the robot parts into pasta. Easy peasy and you get a nice snack!

What? She turned an entire tree into a house, and an apple into solid gold. Are trees not organic?

The show itself really downplays her material warping powers in favor of her pink lantern powers

Quite a big contrast with her performance in her special

And because she didn’t take it seriously, innocents died.

I really am loving her character arc, focusing on how superpowers affect civilians. Probably my favorite part of the season.

I felt like it was out of character considering how affected she was by the building collapse

Nah, she was on a short fuse and didn’t think of the consequences of her actions, that’s like the entire point of her arc. Yes she was affected by the building collapse, but realising a problem with how she handles things and actually changing it are two different things

The couple that died looked a lot like her parents too, adding to the trauma that situation would cause

          She can’t affect organic material

I mean… she can, right? She created food, and later turned an apple into gold.

I think it’s more like she can’t affect sentient beings due to some kind of mental block (the one mentioned in her 2x00 episode?), and she sees those cybernetic parts as pieces of a sentient being.

I’ve never understood why she doesn’t just turn an opponent’s clothing into vipers or molten lava or something if it’s a life or death situation.

i kind of stuggle watching these fights because sometimes a punch to the head is just a punch/good hit and other times it utterly crushes their skulls. It can take me out of it, I dont know if anyone else ever watches and thinks the same.

Obviously not quite the same, but in professional fighting it is often said that the shot you don’t see coming is the one that will knock you out. I like to think they can somehow brace themselves for certain blows. But ultimately you are right you just have to suspend your disbelief.

They actually can, which is visible in Episode 2 when Invincible fights Darkwing (Nightboy) who used exoskeleton. Darkwing was able to actually lend some hits on Mark, but suddenly he just… didn’t. Mark didn’t block it or anything, Darkwing just punched him and it didn’t do anything at all, and mere seconds before he felt like Spartakos fighting a super-alien.
