Nolan’s whole opening scene just showing him aimlessly wandering space and then GENUINELY ATTEMPTING SUICIDE GOD
literally such a good scene and the fact it has no dialogue other than the backing track is brilliant. I also really like that his reason for staying on thraxa is different in the show than the comic
Bc in the comic he just like flies around and finds thraxa and instantly becomes god king and plans to give them to the empire which is whatever ok
But the show making it that he stops his attempt to save the thraxans and they then ASK him to stay is so much better because he fully looked ready to go back and jump in that black hole. To have a purpose and be heroic like his son truly is to be a real hero and help those people out and not just hand them off to the empire is such beautiful character writing.
Also the scene shortly after w debbie mirroring nolan was WOW she doesn’t so much attempt rather contemplate but lord it hurt so bad nonetheless Can’t wait for season 2b
Might be an unpopular opinion, but I liked Mark’s first encounter with the Viltrumites better in the comic. There it felt like Mark had a true desperation when trying to stand against them. I remember that he was having trouble even keeping up with them, he realized how weak he truly was in comparison. In this it was just that he had to stop holding back (which was cool btw).
I also remember Nolan had a badass line along the lines of “fight or die” in regards to Mark not being able to match their strength and speed. Idk, I still enjoyed the episode, but it just seems like if they would stick to the books on some stuff it would be better.
Wished Lucan looked more threatening and badass like in the comics. His beer gut isn’t working for me.
hi guys sorry where is a good place to get these comics? I need more invincible in my life
Kregg was a lil…plain? lol idk how to word it, but Vidor’s presence felt alot more intimidating than his.
Personally I liked the comics version more, what bothered me about this episode is that Invincible is FAR too strong, he should not be able to keep up with veteran Viltrumites at all, and theres no “I am ENRAGED” :(
However, the animation, voice acting, soundtracks were SOOO amazing holy shit. And it was such a good idea to expand upon what Nolan did after he left earth.
But overall it was rushed imo, too many subplots, just focus on Thraxa.
Out of context since I didn’t read the comics. Kinda figured Nolan’s books had some significance to helping Mark grow but hearing him say “Read my books,” was hilarious to me
Lmao Mark tells Kregg to fuck himself like he isn’t gonna put all that goo to waste
Why is Oliver Purple? Wouldn’t it make more sense for him to be blue?
Bruh, watching marks hesitation getting punished was one of the best parts of the episode.
I don’t care if Clancy Brown voices it, in my head I’ll always read General Kregg as General Craig
Thaedus said Viltrumites havent fought Viltrumites since the great purge.
But these 3 seemed almost eager to go after each other. Lukan implied that even if Nolan hadnt gone rogue, Mark would have had to prove himself by fighting a Viltrumite.
Anyone else actually kind of pissed that they broke the “Invincible” name drop title card rule?
Still have to rewatch it to fully form my opinion, but honestly after building this episode up in my head all week I’m pretty disappointed. They cut so much stuff out of Thraxa, basically nothing new was added for in the Debbie or Eve plots, and the Donald plot could have easily been moved to episode 3. This whole episode should have been set on Thraxa.
And the fight on Thraxa kind of sucked too. I didn’t really feel the impact of Viltrumites fighting that I felt when Mark and Nolan fought. I also thought several times while watching it that the animation was actually noticeably bad during that fight.
I was never a massive fan of the short arc on Thraxa in the comics, but this does make me a little bit worried about what they might change to the arcs I really did love.
If the Mauler Twins always know what the other is thinking (established during the Robot fight) shouldn’t King Mauler have known that Mauler was gonna poison him?
I believe this only holds true when they both believe they are the elder . Once they consider each other superior and inferior, they aren’t thinking the same way because each mind is coming from a unique perspective. They (usually) know what the other is thinking because they’re the same person, cooperating, moving towards a shared goal because they are the same person. Once one of them becomes the clone, the two split into individuals, each having different motivations and goals.
I really loved a lot about this episode, from the black hole to the one for one adaptation of the comic panel during the fight where they straight up paused on it to let it sink in before moving on. I lost someone in a long term relationship and I’ve always had kind of a middling relationship when my dad as he was always gone a lot too (he never did any of the Obvious Omni-man-isms) but all of the father son moments as well as the kind of lingering effect with debbie having a partner that’s gone + not throwing away all of their things REALLY hit home for me. like, this is my peak episode so far and it isn’t even my favorite arc. I am SO excited to see what they keep doing with the show considering they made arcs that I breezed through while reading in ~5 minutes (I read fast) into full multi length episodes makes me appreciate them so much more. HOLY fuck, dude.
