As a person who loves reading but recently has little time for it, I tried to switch to audiobooks. However, I keep catching myself losing attention while trying to concentrate on the audiobook. I find myself scrolling back on the recording to catch up on things I missed, and it’s highly frustrating. It puzzles me because I can easily read a physical book in a public place, but I can’t seem to listen to an audiobook in a public setting.
Has anyone else experienced this problem with audiobooks? Do you consider it a good alternative to a physical book when there’s no possibility or time to read a book?
I have ADHD and a prominent symptom for me is auditory processing difficulties, so yeah haha I struggle with them too. I sometimes want to read and knit though, so I chose audiobooks that I care about less. Like I still want to enjoy them, but ones where I know it’s just supposed to be a fun fantasy and I’m not concerned about catching everything, or where I know the writing style is simple and repetitive.
I also pretty much only listen to them while knitting. Knitting requires some looking and obviously holding something in my hands, so holding and looking at a book isn’t possible, but it doesn’t require a ton of thought. I can’t drive or walk around a busy area or do puzzles and listen to audiobooks.
