Yeah and they try really hard to hide it 😒 I knew the “hours” of free listening time stank of corporate, technically true speak. I had to dig through the FAQ to find the exact number.

This book was far past what my tolerance for purple prose is
Yeah I don’t know, I feel like kids aren’t given enough time in school to read anymore. My niece has an assigned hour of reading of anything she wants every week, and it’s pretty easy for her because she likes reading, but I think about all the kids who don’t have books at home or don’t have parents who will bring them to the library or who don’t like it because it doesn’t come easy to them or who have a lot of extracurriculars… when I was in middle school, which wasn’t very long ago, we had an hour of quiet reading built into our schedule every week and everybody loved it. Like idk if schools care about reading scores dropping, maybe they should give kids space to read.
High school with assigned books is a little harder, but we still had time in class to read. Although then my enjoyment heavily depended on which English teacher I had… I remember hating all the books I read the semester my English teacher was terrible (told us what to think without giving us any room for discussion, played favorites with a couple of the boys and punished girls for everything, etc)
I was thinking I couldn’t be the first one to comment ardent for Mary Shelley lol she loved that word
Tying yourself to a bigot is honestly the best you can hope for with men who idolize people like that. Ask me how I know lol.
This one is a yellow flag but it heavily depends on why they liked it, I would have to check
I used to think this too lol.
I mean we all know that it’s satire by now, come on
I’m reading Mistborn and it’s my first of his and while it’s far from my favorite book, it’s a lot better than reddit would make it sound… I saw someone saying that all the good characters only do good things and that everybody only has one trait and it made me wonder if some people who shit on it have even read it.
It’s Gothic horror and it’s not supposed to be romantic haha Heathcliff was definitely intended to be an awful person
It’s a kink piece, and not even a particularly good one, which is really weird to suggest to a teacher at their kid’s preschool!
I don’t count them but I do keep the pages I read recorded in Storygraph. I know that doesn’t matter to many people, but it’s fun to see for me.
Yeah lol not in a relationship currently, but what I like in fiction would be insufferable irl.
I have ADHD and a prominent symptom for me is auditory processing difficulties, so yeah haha I struggle with them too. I sometimes want to read and knit though, so I chose audiobooks that I care about less. Like I still want to enjoy them, but ones where I know it’s just supposed to be a fun fantasy and I’m not concerned about catching everything, or where I know the writing style is simple and repetitive.
I also pretty much only listen to them while knitting. Knitting requires some looking and obviously holding something in my hands, so holding and looking at a book isn’t possible, but it doesn’t require a ton of thought. I can’t drive or walk around a busy area or do puzzles and listen to audiobooks.
I find it really hard to feel bad for a guy like that.
What does it being set in Northern Minnesota have to do with it lol
I read this one in 2022 but it stuck in my mind probably for the opposite reason as you
Lol right, contemporary “enemies” to lovers is almost always like, guys who looked at her funny in the elevator once
She’s sooo awkward and constantly putting her foot in her mouth. She’s also definitely going to drop something, or trip and fall, or spill her coffee (which she can’t live without of course!!!) all over herself. But it’s all ok because she’s hot, so she’s just quirky.
I hate this trope lol.
I’m totally fine with the idea of spending more for a really nice copy, but I prefer reading paperbacks, so my limit usually ends up being $20 if I buy them new.
