I swear every episode ends with invincible looking like this.

I thought like this too, until I saw the fight with the granny Viltrumite. Do you know why he was able to defeat her? It wasn’t just because of Nolan convincing Mark to stop holding back, it’s because of his Viltrumite biology. Every time a Viltrumite gets beaten up and recovers, they get stronger. All of Mark’s beatings from S1 through Ep. 3 of S2 lead him to grow strong enough to beat up a veteran Viltrumite.

My understanding is that’s Allen’s thing, Viltrumites don’t get a Zenkai boost. The Viltrumite strength curve is (I think) dependent on age, experience, and genetic lineage.

But also by pushing yourself. In the show Mark complains about having to exercise and Nolan tells him to suck it up. And you are definitely pushing yourself when Battle Beast shows up or your dad forcefully feeds you subway

The viltrumites are like athletes that never get out of shape and in theory any time you survive a fighting experience what you learned in the fight is coded into your dna through powerful memories… so they could either live long and experience surviving multiple fights over 1000’s of years they become stronger orrr you could squeeze many large fights into a one year period to super jump those viltrumites genes

Every fight he lost it made sense that he lost. If anything he was doing a little too good against that female Viltrimite. Besides he got a couple Ws against the elephant guy and the gun arm guy.

Mark getting swatted aside like a bug and held down with one finger by Lucan was realistic and aptly conveyed the threat of Viltrumites, whom the show has been hyping up since the Season 1 finale.

Mark gaining a second wind and whooping Thula’s ass just because he “stopped holding back”, however, was cliché shonen anime bullshit that ruined some of the tension they held over the narrative.

Fr the granny has like 2000 years of fighting experience and is probably physically stronger too. Never underestimate and old man in a profession where men die young. Or in this case, an old woman

And honest he’s shown small bursts of his potential in that one fight against battle beast and the lava and tongue and shock guy. He went ham for a few minutes before BB beat him down

Honestly, yeah. Thula is one of the stronger Viltrumites, and once he started trying, he was kinda kicking her ass. He only lost because he couldn’t pull the trigger at the end. Which doesn’t make sense. At this point he should lose to any random Viltrumite handily.

Yes exactly, I thought there’d be more people talking about this. I loved the episode and the fight, but it was really ridiculous how a Viltrumite with little-to-no training that just got his powers a year ago was able to beat up a Viltrumite veteran who I’m guessing has thousands of years of experience just because he “stopped holding back”. It came off as cliché shonen anime bullshit to me.

Most in this sub just brush it off as “well he wasn’t really doing any damage, compared to what Omni-Man did to her” or “I don’t care, at least he finally kicked some ass”.

Bruh, be patient. It’s still his first year of super heroing and he’s fighting people that are like 1000+ years old. The fact that he’s still alive is more impressive and realistic than if he actually beat an Old God from Walmart Apokolips.

    Because it’s about his spirit.

BTW, I feel like the first he is about to really, personally win is going to be the most violent one, right after event called Invincible War.
