What book have you read that wasn’t subjectively “bad” but you regrets reading all the same?

For me, Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter. The book was engaging and it kept me on my toes, but I just with I hadn’t “poisoned my head” with all the graphic gore that was in there. I years later i still think about this and how I really wish I had never read it.

Question inspired by a comment /u/PrincessOfWales made in another thread :)

    A little life.

I couldn’t finish it and I’ll never recommend it to another person. I genuinely think it’s psychologically damaging.

I do think that books have the power to traumatize you or re-traumatize you and we don’t need to subject ourselves to all of them! I had to quit reading Stone Butch Blues because there was so much sexual violence in it that it was making me feel like that kind of abuse is just inevitable. It’s an important book but I don’t think it was healthy for me!
