This may seem weird - but I was asking myself if there‘s a correlation between loving books and buying more mugs.
I‘m obsessed with mugs, because I love drinking tea or coffee while reading and beautiful big mugs make me happy / feeling special.
My best friend is also really into books - we‘re also in the same book club - and we we‘re asking ourselves if there is that same reasoning and correlation for everyone or if it‘s just us.
Do you guys are also like that and it‘s a booklover thing?
And ofc I just bought a handmade pottery mug for way too much money on black friday? How could I not?
I adore big, cute mugs and definitely choose them with curling up with a good book and a warm drink in mind. With that being said, where do people here like to go mug shopping? Etsy?
I love books and reading. I own 1 coffee cup, which is a Yeti travel mug. I do not think there is a huge correlation between mugs and books.
Oh good to know! Do you prefer reading e-books or paperbacks/hardcover? Maybe that also plays into that
I did indeed just get some “Black Friday” mugs in a furniture store because they were super cheap, really big and have a timeless design … but I’m not a mug collector and all the mugs we have with something cute or special on it were presents.
There are mugs in the house, because we need something to hold coffee and tea, but we don’t have a lot of them and there’s nothing particularly special or interesting about them. We do have around 2,000 books, not counting ebooks or audio books. So no, no correlation here.
I see. I feel like it‘s around half the people saying yes and the other half saying no. Maybe it‘s really only a coincidence
They’re marketed similarly. People want to purchase a vibe.
We have like seven coffee mugs and we use the same two every day. I tell my wife if she wants to buy a new mug, that’s fine….but she has to get rid of one we already have. We have no reason to have more than 4, and would be absolutely fine with 2.
And I definitely prefer my Kindle but it’s just a cost/convenience thing. I get them all through my library.
My bf would definitely say the same, eventho we’re using around 6 big mugs before we turn the dishwasher on and only have 4 :)
I think the correlation comes more from people with a propensity for collecting or consumerism than it does from the cozy warm drinks. You only need one mug for those drinks.
Although I love books as much as I love coffee, my particular circumstance with my books prevents me from drinking or eating anything while reading. The books that I read are all antique, which means that I have to be careful when handling them because of the century+ of unknown events that have left their covers barely attached to the rest of the book. I need to use 2 hands on almost all of my books and I need clean, dry hands in order to not damage or stain the pages and exterior. If I could drink while reading, I think I would have more mugs than I do.
There must be… I have the same affliction
Aside from being cozy and usually thought of in correlation (drinking a cuppa while reading a book) I think both the mug and the book bring love and joy. Usually a book you are reading is a book you are curious about, and a cup of tea is in a mug you think is lovely. Both the mug and the book hold stories inside them, the book’s is between the pages and the mug’s is a combination of where you got it from, why it’s important to you, the pattern and what it’s made from. (I think I might be getting too sentimental about mugs)
I really like your way of thinking and you described it so perfectly! I‘m also really sentimental when it comes to stuff like that, so no excuses needed :)
Santomental mates! I made a cup of tea because of this post hahaha
