The fight would have been much cleaner and more in their favor had they stayed together the entire time
They spoke so highly of Nolan, they must have known they’d lose any 1v1 against him
If you grow up in a society where the weak deserve to die then that includes yourself too
This was my take on it too. Didn’t one of them say something along the lines of, if they lose then they don’t deserve to live? I don’t think it’s arrogance, it’s their culture to fight to the death.

Vidor tells Nolan that if Mark dies fighting Thula, he never deserved to live.
Exactly. We have to keep in mind that these people truly believe in the survival of the fittest, and they apply the same logic to their own lives. Ruthlessness and loyalty to the Empire are the only thing that matter.
Lucan may have been down, but he was not out, and with a very last bit of his strength he proved his veteranhood by doing what was expected of him. Completing the mission.
That is how you get accolades with these people, and that is how you have to earn your place in their society.
The thing is that Viltrumites go very stupid way about “survival of the fittest”.

Mark is a literal Viltrumite toddler, compare to likes of Thulla or Lucan.

To be fair from how Lucan made it sound they would take him in if he was just capable of putting up a good fight at his age. Like if he at all made it a challenge for them and managed to not die then they’d fold him into the empire and if not then he’s weak and didn’t deserve to live.
Vidor and Thule were/are cool characters. I fuck with the fact they showed respect to Nolan. Also visors glasses combo was very clean
