You wanted to read the book, you were excited to crack it open, you came into it with good faith and anticipation… but you ended up dnf-ing it. Which book and why?

Mine was The Maid by Nita Prose. It was for my book club and looked like a fun murder mystery. Instead I got instant manic-pixie-dream-neurodivergent-girl vibes, and I noped out before the crime scene was even found.

I’ve returned at least three audio books that I expected to really like. Two I can remember right now. I returned Tales From a Small Island because it was read in a sneering tone. I don’t think Bill Bryson hated the UK. I returned Mistress of Empire because it made a brilliant and cunning woman stupid. Maybe she got her brains back later. I should have returned Seven Eves, boy was that a stupid book. I burned Steven King’s 11/22/63 after reading. People love it, it got great reviews. I thought it was incredibly boring.
