Can’t show it in a single screenshot but the show pretty much follows the comic here panel for panel
idk why the show completely removed Mark crying
In the show Mark has an outburst at being lied to again by his father
Mark already has his thoughts gathered in the comic
They cut this out for some reason
This whole scene doesn’t happen in the comic
The purpose of this post ism purely unbiased comparison. The scene is impactful o the story moving forward so i thought it’d be interesting to see how the show handled it differently. In summary, Mark in the show reacted a fair bit more immaturely which is an interesting choice for the show. He kind of thinks things through a bit more in the comic (a common trend as you’ll see) although in the show things are a way more fast paced so i guess you could attribute his reaction to seeing Omni-man in the show to him having less time to process and a lot less experience as Invincible.
Another point I’d like to bring up is that alot of the storylines that Mark would’ve been now experiencing as Invincible have already been completed. The sped up robot plot and D.A. Sinclair plot may have contributed to Mark feeling way more naive in the show.
Its also important to note that Mark has much less of a relationship with and Robot before he reunites with Nolan. As of episode 4 of season 2, the only people Mark’s in contact with are William, Amber, Debbie and Cecile (not to mention Eve whos kinda MIA). Whereas in the comic he had a friend in Art Rosenbaum (the costume tailor), and was on good terms with Rex and Robot.
Thanks for reading guys and what do you think? Did the show mess up? Is it too early to tell?
I actually liked that Mark wasn’t super composed here, as the show has been pretty adamant that Mark hasn’t been processing any of this trauma… he’s been trying to hide from it with his superhero activities.
Nolan killed thousands, insulted his mom, beat him within an inch of his life and then fled. Nolan then tricks Mark into visiting him, tells him he’s started a new family and needs help protecting them and that he can never return to earth. I’d be beyond furious, but Mark wants to see the good in everyone so he’s going to fight with himself to find a way to love his dad again.
