I was a Spanish teacher for 15 years and I usually cringe at the terrible Spanish that the Americans attempt to speak on the show. Don’t get me wrong: they are still understandable, but the sig other is listening to some of the worst grammar… (imagine a 4 year old speaking English)

Clayton, however, has this one impressed. He has made few grammatical errors and has really good oral proficiency and clear oral comprehension. He is great at spontaneous conversation.

I need to know what language learning app he used! I want to work on my French and German.

She conjugates everything in the present tense and her accent makes me laugh out loud. But she speaks so confidently while she’s clearly still learning which is admirable. So short answer: no, but I feel badly saying that.

I don’t get accent criticism. It was a disconnect I had in school with teachers who said we needed to speak with their accent. I’ve got a goofy ass Baltimore accent but when I speak Spanish to my in laws they know what I’m saying - just like how when they’re speaking English I can work with their accent.

Yes, I LOVE her confidence with it!! Seriously, cannot emphasize enough that is half of the problem with most people learning another language… But hearing her use every verb in present tense or merely the infinitive is driving me crazy!!

She doesn’t conjugate her verbs. She sounds confident but the grammar and phonics are really bad.

That’s probably why I understand her Spanish and not Manuel’s Spanish lol it sounds like Spanglish.

I taught high school Spanish, and imo Ashley has the skills of someone who has taken 4 years of Spanish. In a spontaneous conversation, she can get her point across but as others have stated on this thread, she doesn’t always use the right tense all the time. She avoids most complex verb phrasing. It is normal for someone who someone who didn’t take Spanish courses in college and for most people who use an app to learn the language. Apps don’t cover everything, of course. All of that considered, I do admire her fluency and confidence for sure.
