Does anyone know accents of the characters, please?
Here’s what I found out so far - I could be very wrong though:
Jamie - Manchester (Mancunian)
Rebecca - Posh Received Pronunciation (RP) / Queen’s English
Trent Crimm, independent - Posh Received Pronunciation (RP) / Queen’s English
Keeley - Essex
Sam - Nigerian
Colin - Welsh
Isaac …??? “bruv”? South London?
Beard - Kansas
Ted - Oklahoma, Kansas, Southern midwestern
Michelle and Henry - ?
Nate - Yorkshire…?
Rupert - North London
Roy Kent - South London
Phoebe - Posh Received Pronunciation (RP) / Queen’s English
Higgins - northern regional accent
Dr Sharon - Welsh?
Zava - Polish
Jack - South African
Shandy - Essex?
Jade - Polish / British?
Bumbercatch - ?
Zorro - canadian?
Dani - mexican?
George Cartrick - London?
Thierry Henry - shut up
I’m super annoyed by Ted’s accent, since we’re on the topic. I live on the southern end of Missouri/Kansas border and nobody here talks like that unless they’re “from off.” It could be Oklahoma or Texas but it ain’t Kansas.
It’s like Ruth from Ozarks all over again.
I’ve met plenty of people from Wichita (my wife lived there for several years) who speak with a similar accent to Ted.
Isn’t Isaac from Peckham?
Which would be south east London? I think Isaac’s accent is just a London street accent. Not that I’m in any way qualified to make that statement, but I have a friend that talks just like Isaac, and she calls it a street accent… interestingly she can ramp it up or nearly eliminate it depending on who she’s around.
Shut up Thierry Henry
Beard is from Peoria, Illinois.
Yeah, and I’d describe his accent as ambiguous Midwestern
Zorro is technically French-Canadian, if we’re being pedantic
AHEM, it’s pronounced “Zoreaux”
sorry, Van Damme
the finale is what i went by
So his accent is Quebecois, compared to Richard who has a French accent
I’m not sure it’s Quebecois, he sounds more central Canadian to me.
Both the actor and the character are from Montréal
I’ve spent thirty minutes trying to come up with a folksy rhyme that starts with, “I stand corrected,” but I got nothin.
Appreciate it, though. :)
I’m from Montreal and am fairly bilingual, I’ve noticed he speaks without an accent when he speaks English. Like most here he’s probably perfectly bilingual and is proficient in Franglais.
to me Zorro sounds super french… but im not native english speaker
Isn’t Jack from a Scandinavian country? I want to say Denmark. She doesn’t have a South African accent
She just went to school in Denmark. Definitely does not have a Danish accent.
Ahh, ok. I remember something about Denmark. I google the actress and see she’s South African (like me) but she doesn’t sound very South African to me, at least not in the show. I think her accent is a bit more mixed because she does more Canadian and British stuff.
I think you could consider Colin’s to be South Wales specifically - there’s a part about his family disowning him or not speaking to him after Cardiff got relegated. It probably wanders a bit as Billy Harris is actually from Essex. Funnily, his Welsh accent is very similar (to my ears, at least) to Stacey’s accent in Gavin & Stacey, a show about two families from Essex and Barry, in South Wales!
Ahhh I love Gavin and Stacey! I try to do an Essex accent as an American accent, but I’m rubbish at it. The Welsh is even harder.
What about Sassy?🤷♂️
google doesn’t have any info :(
Yes, Dani is Mexican and supposed to be from Guadalajara so he would have a Jalisco accent (though when speaking English the different Mexican accents are hard to distinguish).
Jan Maas - very Dutch. Not a particularly strong region accent, but he’s from Groningen
If it ain’t Dutch, it ain’t much
TIL north and south London have different accents
The UK loves its intricately distinguishable regional accents.
why would Roy’s father be a little racist based on being from south London? is north/west/east London any better?
I have no idea… all I said was that today I learned London has different accents…
I’d have Higgins as being Nottingham / East Midlands early life then south England.
Yeah he’s got a bit of east Midlands dialect to him but it is very nuanced.
Bumbercatch is Swiss. Just look at him.
yes, but which accent does he have?
I can’t remember what Zorro’s voice sounds like, but as a Canadian there are quite a few different accents depending where you live.
Dr Sharon has a London accent.
Jade sounds like a Polish person who’s lived in the UK for at least a decade.
Would you consider yourself an amateur dialectologist?
which part of London? …
with Jade - i guess i was too confused by her character to focus on the accent but man, she sounded like just a british person to me.
Dunno I’m not from London. Her accent is quite soft compared to Roy or Isaac.
With Jade, her Polish accent is extremely light. It was only when Rupert commented on it that I was like “oh! She sounds like my Polish friend”. Pretty sure that Rupert’s ability to identify her accent in particular is meant to illustrate how clever, charming and able to read people he is.
