The prequels are amazing compared to the stuff they made when Disney took over Lucasfilm. The whole Rey plot. I blame that on directors though. All the potential was there and… somehow palpatine returned.

You can call almost anything great if you hold it to a low enough bar. I don’t think the prequels are better than the sequels, but they are far more original and interesting.

The big villain for the sequels was Bob Iger. He demanded that they push out one Star Wars movie per year so the production schedule was hell. Kathleen obviously deserves some of the flack, but on some level she was also just pushing through decisions from higher up in the chain.

And the directors obviously deserve a lot of flack as well. They had 0 plan for the sequels. thank you JJ Abrams and your mystery box.

“They had 0 plan for the sequels.”

Not true, according to the art books and what people associated with the films have said.

According to Driver, Abrams pitched him that Kylo was going to be inverse-Vader: start vulnerable and then progressively become more dangerous and in control. Which makes TLJ all the more crazy: Kylo, like everyone else, has the exact same arc as before.

I bet everyone else had arcs that were thrown away, too.

Michael Arndt also planned for an arc involving Leia rebuilding the republic in the sequels.

And Boyega has said that Finn’s force powers would have been explored as would the dynamic between Finn and Rey.

Alan Dean Foster has spoken about being instructed to undermine that relationship between Finn and Rey.

“I expected to see that developed further in [‘The Last Jedi’]. And zero happened with it. And we all know why zero happened with it — and there’s no need to go into it in-depth — but that’s, sadly, just the way things are.”

Johnson had totally dismantled Finn and pushed the Ren-Rey romantic relationship as the key one in this trilogy. Johnson admitted that he saw Rey and Kylo in TFA as the beginning of a “romantic” and “intimate” dynamic. She saw him murder his father and her mentor and Johnson felt that was “romantic” and “intimate”?

She’s worked at Lucas Arts since the 80s at least. She started out as an assistant to Spielberg and got bigger roles in the company as time went on. George Lucas hand picked her to lead the company when he stepped down.

But she is more of a business person than she is a movie creative type.

She co-founded Amblim entertainment with Spielberg and her husband in 1981, she didn’t have anything to do with star wars till force awakens.

She only worked with Lucas on the Indiana Jones films which were a coproduction between Amblim and Lucasfilm!

That second part is not true… she was involved with Star Wars in the prequels. She’s seen behind the scenes in the documentaries giving George advice and she was even interviewed on some of the commentary.
