You can still enjoy everything about the book, apart from the surprises. Even then, you can have the pleasure of anticipating how the surprise will affect the characters. You know it’s going to be good. Sometimes it’s a guaranteed comfort read in hard times. Sometimes you notice things you didn’t the first time, especially so for intricately written stories, and mysteries. And last, but most importantly, if you have to push yourself at all, you don’t do it.

I was a bit underwhelmed by the phoenix revelation.

It must be out of print. Sellers have been asked for it a lot, and/or have previously found that buyers were prepared to pay a lot for it. So the next time they acquire a copy they try for even more money. If someone bites at the new price, on it goes.
