The Virgin Suicides. I went into it blind and had to put the book down SEVERAL times because of how icky it made me feel. Didn’t know how to feel when I finished but I think the author did exactly what he intended to do… Very uncomfy read but I kind of “liked” it and it’s definitely stayed on my mind.
depends on the type on non fic and also the writer’s purpose for writing, i think. for biographies, i’d rate it based on how easy it is to read and my own personal interest. for self help, philosophy, history etc. i base it more on the informational stuff. so what and how they use research, how well they elaborate their points, and i also like to think about how well i can connect/apply that info to my own life
Dracula by Bram Stoker. It was the first piece of classic lit I’d ever read, and thought I’d hate trying to decipher the older version of English. Ended it up not only loving it, but it sparked my passion for 19th and 20th century literature. It’s basically all I read now. Just started the Picture of Dorian Gray, another I thought I’d hate, lol
I love writing reviews on Goodreads. I first started doing it to just keep notes of my thoughts of the books I read, but I’ve genuinely started getting into writing thoughtful reviews! Agreed on feedback for writers, but I also noticed it helps increase my overall comprehension of the books.
I read this and The Maidens and it seems this author is a good writer and can start a story well, but the endings… like how does he consistently lose the plot??
The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle
Absolutely incredible novel. I wrote my final paper for my 20th Century Literature class, wrote a crap ton about chronemics, and got a 100!
I don’t re-read or rewatch anything either, but the only books I have reread and considered rereading have been classics. I guess they’re classics for a reason lol. There are very few contemporary books I would reread, but the ones I would have more interesting plots, the kind of books you don’t want to put down, usually thrillers/mysteries for me
