I think is writing style is comically funny, even if it’s not supposed to be. His writing just makes sense with the manly man he was pretending to be - it’s so…gruff and disjointed, and matter-of-fact. I’m a huge lost generation fan, but Ernie’s style just isn’t it for me

I like the story a lot and also think it has a lot of literary and historic significance. Conrad’s prose is just not something that my brain enjoys.
Heart of Darkness made me want to kick and scream as a teenager and as a university English student. While I’m not mad at the story itself, Joseph Conrad just doesn’t do it for me. I also hate catcher in the rye solely because I hate Holden.
I adore Kafka too. I just read his diaries and they’re fascinating! Highly recommend.
I read this when it first came out, and thought it was one of the most beautiful and perfect books I’ve ever read. I think it’s time for me to have a reread :)
