I only use “watch this episode” or “check out this scene” when the show takes a few episodes to find its footing. Ted Lasso’s pilot was fantastic.

I agree with people that it’s not southern. It’s rural midwestern for sure. I’ve got friends from near St Joseph MO that sound a little like that if they allow themselves to.

The problem is, neither Jason Sudeikis nor Ted Lasso are from the rural Midwest. Ted Lasso canonically went to elementary school at Brookridge Elementary in Overland Park KS (and Jason (according to his mother when I met her a few months ago) went to Brookridge Day School (a private elementary school near the public elementary school). So, there’s no reason for the exaggerated country bumpkin accent except that’s what he thinks the character would sound like.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted you’re 100% right. I mean, sure there are SOME people who sound like that, but there are also people with a British accent or Indian accent

I grew up an hour NW of St Louis and now live the next school district over from where Jason Sudeikis grew up in KC (and my wife went to the same school district as him.

You won’t hear that accent anywhere in St Louis or KC unless it’s someone not from here or cosplaying a southern accent.
