I’m on the third book in the series and it definitely gets better as it goes.
Whether or not you want to continue it kinda depends on whether or not you’re willing to spend time on one book you don’t enjoy to get to others that you might.

ARCs are almost exclusively used as a way to promote a book and you’re not going to get them unless you already have an established and relatively large social media presence.
If you’re just looking for free books then check out the library or enter giveaways.
If you’re not treating it like it’s your job then you’re not going to get any ARCs and even then it’s a gamble.

Reading books for fun and reading books academically are two very different things and I’ve always approached them differently.
It just sounds like you weren’t being challenged enough in that class.
And Art is pretty subjective.
Just because something is art to one person doesn’t mean another person is going to agree on that.
