I don’t know if I am speaking too soon but I am like 100 and something pages in and I am so bored I feel like nothing is happening. something tells me I should probably just keep reading and the plot will pick up but I feel that if I force myself I’ll be putting myself in a reading slump so… Should I keep on reading?? Note: I just got into fantasy like ACOTAR is my third book after Fourth Wing and iron flame

I’m on the third book in the series and it definitely gets better as it goes.

Whether or not you want to continue it kinda depends on whether or not you’re willing to spend time on one book you don’t enjoy to get to others that you might.

Don’t bother continuing. It does not get better at all. The plot is really predictable, the worldbuilding is plain, the characters are all immature af despite supposedly being hundreds of years old, and the writing is straight up bad.

In my opinion, many authors of popular booktok books suffer from lack of good editors, and SJM is no exception. I don’t recommend wasting your time reading the series if you don’t like it.

It’s poorly written fairy porn that switches directions around the time the author got pregnant. So if that doesn’t sound like your thing, you might want to move onto something else

Sarah J Mass was my favorite author in high school. Now that I’m a little older I think I’ve grown out of her. For those saying she’s a terrible author I don’t think thats true, but a lot of her books are just immature. They were fun and engaging and got me back into reading, but I was also drawn into her writing right away and never found it boring. I do think the series got more engaging and exiting as it went along, although I only read the first three books because I lost interest in the series while waiting for the fourth.

That book sucked ass. There were some very pretty scenes(star pool) but the main characters blow ass. they aren’t fae they’re just rapey possessive wereelves. There is as much wimsy in the book as a texas roadhouse and I’ve read better smut on the side of a gas station bathroom.

I finished all five books in the series. I hated everyone a little more after each book. I loathe the lot after book 5. So, I wouldn’t recommend you continue with this. Especially if you started to like Tamlin. Or Lucien.

First off, you should probably ask this on like. The fantasy romance sub or something. Most of the people on this sub are not the audience for that book (or for fantasy romance in general), so you’re gonna get a higher proportion of people who don’t like it responding. But that aside…

I mean, I don’t think either ACOTAR or Fourth Wing are good (and by this, I mean, I don’t even think they’re good at what they’re trying to do by being fantasy romance). I DNF’d ACOTAR like 90% of the way through when I realized the ending was not going to improve the slog I’d gone through and that the series was only going to get more frustrating to me. So I wouldn’t personally encourage you to continue, I’d suggest asking for more recs on the fantasy romance subs.

If you liked Fourth Wing, a lot of those people seem to like ACOTAR too. Though also a lot of ACOTAR fans seem to say it doesn’t really get good until like the second or even third book? Idk. That might be useful information to you if you’re deciding whether to continue or not.

For the first two books the plot is pretty much just something to string together sex scenes. You don’t read ACOTAR for plot, you read it for smut. If you aren’t into that then it’s just not for you. Fourth Wing and Iron Flame are so much better at having a plot where shit actually matters and it’s an interesting story that happens to have very graphic sex scenes.
