I really enjoy The Great Alone though the ending was not my cup of tea and knocked it from a four star read to a three star one. I’ve looked at her other stuff to see if I want to read another one of her books and nothing else she’s written appeals to me.
I read what I’m in the mood for. Sometimes that’s fiction, sometimes it’s non-fiction. This year I haven’t done much non-fiction but in past years I’ve read almost exclusively non-fiction. Idk…it all balances out in the end I suppose. Though I don’t really think you need to balance it, just read what you like.
I listen to a lot of audiobooks. I listen while driving, cleaning, knitting, taking a walk, cooking. I find it pretty easy to focus on the story while doing a somewhat mindless task. If I have to give more focus to whatever else I’m doing, I pause the audiobook. But generally I find it pretty easy to follow audiobooks.
I enjoyed Fourth Wing. I had a lot of fun reading it despite its flaws. I was hoping the second book would flesh out the characters and the world a more. But Iron Flame was one of the most disappointing books I’ve read in years. I really had to push myself to even finish it. That’s the end of that series for me.
I was listening to a book that took place in Wyoming, specifically Dubois, WY. I’m from near there, driven through a lot, know people that live there. I know how it’s pronounced. The narrator kept pronouncing it the French way which is incorrect and drove me so insane I had to stop listening. It would have taken all of 2 seconds to Google it.
If I really love the book and feel like I’ll re-read them then yes.
The audiobook is well done. Maybe give it a listen.
I’m reading three books right now: Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros, The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent, and Before We Were Innocent by Ella Berman
I don’t really remember how I got into reading. I’ve always loved reading. I think it helped that my parents always had lots of books lying around the house, there was just really easy access to books from a young age.
Ugh same. I very much enjoyed Fourth Wing as a fun, shut off your brain kinda read. The same way I enjoyed Twilight. I’m not going to argue it’s great writing lol but it was enjoyable to read as light entertainment
But Iron Flame is killing me. I got it from my library the day it came out and I’m still not even half way through. I’m so bored. I was hoping she’d improve on some of the world building issues and flesh out the characters a bit more in this book but she definitely hasn’t. I’m pushing through but unless the second half is somehow amazing there’s no way I’m reading any more of this.
I almost exclusively use the library to save money and avoid supporting Amazon. The Libby app lets you easily download ebooks and audiobooks. I also don’t feel the need to own every book I read. If I really love it, I’ll go buy a physical copy from a local book store.
