A friend of mine let me borrow Dune 1-3. I loved them and felt I would definitely re-read Dune. When the deluxe box set of 1-3 came out I bought it but it is just sitting on my shelf. I do plan on rereading them but probably not for awhile. Sometimes I also just like having the books I’ve read on my shelf as “trophies”.

Only if I like it and plan on rereading it. I have limited shelf space and don’t want to clutter my house with books I’d never read again.

Nope, I do not tend to buy books I’ve already read. I’d like to sound smart and cultured by saying that I do because reasons, but I’ll just be honest and say that I don’t.

Yes! If I love the book I’ll buy it. Or if I love the first book or two of a series I’ll buy the series for my shelf!

Absolutely, especially if I can find a used copy in decent shape. Even if I never crack it open, seeing it on the shelf reminds me of how I felt when I read it.

Yes, sometimes possessing something I enjoyed and loved is a feeling worth having. I like knowing I can return to it anytime I want, even if I don’t often.

If I really liked the book, I will definitely buy it. Even if I don’t plan to read it again, I just want to have it in my personal library.

I typically pirate them all first and then I buy whichever once I actually want in my house for whatever reason.

Sure, if I think I’ll return to it often.

Good-Bye to All That is a book I leaf through all the time, never rereading it in its entirety but opening at random and taking in a paragraph, a page, a chapter.

If it’s a book I really loved or an author I want to support, I definitely will buy when I have the cash.

Same. Though I think it’s better for the author if you can pre-order the next book of theirs. Gets them more visibility on bestseller lists and the like. This is the best way I’ve found to assuage the feeling of guilt if I really loved a book I didn’t pay for

After reading a book, even one I read on kindle or listened to, I always try to get the physical copy. I like having a bookcase filled with only books I’ve read and then loaning those books out to people when they want.

I don’t care about condition or anything like that—just whatever the cheapest price I can snag on ThriftBooks or wherever else.

It a waste of money, yeah, but my dad used to do the same thing and before I was really into reading, he donated all his books and was really disheartened not being able to share them with me. My goal is to not do the same as him.

Yes if I’ve liked a book I will definitely buy it (but I buy exclusively used books so it will take time for me to hunt down a good deal)

I haven’t purchased a book in 10-15 years. If my local library doesn’t have it, the get it on loan for me.
