I read about half of Robert Jordan’s Eye of the World (Book 1 of Wheel of Time) in about 9 hours. I was around 14 and I went to bed at 8pm and read straight through until 5am. I remember this clearly because Dad woke me up 30 minutes later to force me to go fishing for the day.
“What the Dog Knows” by Cat Warren. It’s a non fiction book about a woman who trains a cadaver dog. I have a passing interest in the subject (I don’t own a dog and am forced to live vicariously through my parents pets) but this was a three hundred page humble brag from a writer who seemed determined to force her entire life down my throat. I had bought it in a bookstore at a whim and felt compelled to finish it. It’s the only book I’ve ever read that I actively hated.
