Often us readers enter a trance and the book which we’re reading is the only thing on our mind. I used to be like this with most books when I was in middle school but now due to academic pressure I do not invest my entire time to a book. Lastly, the Divergent trilogy took me the shortest time to complete- I finished the entire series in three days.
Novellas read quick because they’re short.
Animal farm. I read the entire book in a little over 2 hours. It was good.
The last Harry Potter book I was so sad I finished it two days after it came out. I went to the midnight release and read it so disgustingly fast that I stopped and went back to reread chapters because I wanted it to last longer.
I’ve gotten better about enjoying books and putting them down for breaks.
Johnny Got His Gun
The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle. Read it in one day.
The Kaiju Preservation Society and Starter Villain, both by John Scalzi. Short, uncomplicated, and lots of fun. About 4 hours each for me.
Fear and loathing in Las Vegas. Couldn’t put that one down
I read about half of Robert Jordan’s Eye of the World (Book 1 of Wheel of Time) in about 9 hours. I was around 14 and I went to bed at 8pm and read straight through until 5am. I remember this clearly because Dad woke me up 30 minutes later to force me to go fishing for the day.
There are several that I’ve read in a day. The first three Harry Potter books, Misery. A couple Clive Cussler books have been knocked out on long flights.
David copperfield. Borrowed it from a friend from primary school, gave it back the next day. I did not learn anything from my classes that day.
The Old Man and the Sea springs to mind
The Metamorphosis - Kafka
The Urge, by Carl Erik Fisher. I read quit lit a lot as I assess my relationship with alcohol but it was this book in particular that caused me to read it in one go. I had picked it up one day and the next I had to take my car for an oil change but there was a miscommunication on time with the shop so I read it cover to cover in a Starbucks across the street haha. I’m usually a decently fast reader but never a good sized book in a single day, but for that one.
I went away with my family and brought the Maze Runner series with me - I don’t remember anything about the holiday because I spent every spare second reading! Such good books :)
The Road and Siddhartha
