I think there are several characters worse than Bojack: Beatrice, Butterscotch, Joseph, Uncle Hank, Vance, Jessica Biel, Stephanie, Ana and Sarah Lynn’s parents (specially the step dad).
Beatrice, Butterscotch and Joseph exceeded Bojack’s levels of cruelty even at his worst. Their awful deeds include physical, psychological and almost sexual abuse to their respective children.
Uncle Hank is a serial rapist, a person who enjoys abusing his power over others merely because he can and because he knows nothing will happen to him.
Vance is a fuckin creep with no capacity for growth and change no matter how many chances he is given. He’s implied to even be sexually inappropriate to his own daughter.
Jessica Biel gleefully murders a man by burning him alive.
Stephanie murders several employees unionizing.
Ana sexually assaults Bojack, and is implied to not being allowed to see her son for unknown reasons.
Sarah Lynn’s mother callously exploited her daughter her whole life and the stepfather is a pedo.
As for who is the worst… I’d say Sarah Lynn’s stepfather. Nothing beats molesting your own child except also murdering them.
Wow, while writing this I became surprised of how many heinous people this show has lmao.
As someone who dealt (and still does, to a lesser extent) with suicidal ideation, I honestly would have found an ending with Bojack commiting suicide waaaay too hopeless and dark.
The message in that case would have been: It doesn’t matter how much you try to change, sometimes it’s not enough, sometimes all you’ll ever be is an useless piece of shit, so you should just kill yourself and be done with it. The world is better without you.
I was sooo fuckin relieved when I saw the last episode and Bojack had not only survived, but managed to re construct his progress in his year on prison, and the show ending on a bittersweet but cautiously optimistic note.
