For me, it is Outlander.
I started reading it and it traumatized & angered me. It angered me that she was using rape as a form of entertainment, but pretending not to. All these years later it’s still upsetting to me.
Trauma porn, in an extremely non funny way.
I have caught myself reading books that tackle traumatic experiences I’ve had and when I really analyze my own thoughts and feelings, I can see that it’s a way for me to relive those events or feelings, but in a more controlled & less traumatic way.
Did anyone say The Great Gatsby? Hate every word of every page. I tried 3 times in 3 different decades to give it a chance. Never again. Trash.
Oh definitely 11/22/63, for sure. One of the top TWO best books I’ve ever read. (After The Goldfinch). I’m not feeling well enough to elaborate, but I love that book enough that I NEED to mention it.
The Goldfinch is my favorite book of all times!!! But it did start off slow.
