1 year agoThe Grandmother in Flowers in the Attic is an indelible stain of turpitude and religious hypocrisy on my memory. Olivia’s malice and unconscionable cruelty cannot be justified because her husband had an incestuous obsession with his mother and married her because she’s unprepossessing.
She found solace in religion yet how can she feel so vindicated in depriving four innocent children of even basic necessities and sequestering them away in the attic?
The School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan was reminiscent of Handmaid’s Tale and trying to capitalise upon the Handmaid’s compelling narrative of female oppression and religious totalitarianism.
