I love this book. It got me through an incredibly rough pregnancy where I had intense insomnia. I didn’t realize how long it was because I was just filling hours of not being able to sleep.

I am a native English speaker. I have not gotten past the fourth chapter!
That’s so weird! I got stuck there too! Did finish, but I wonder what it is about the trolls…
Hornblower and the Hotspur. I went through a phase where I was blazing through the series, got partway through this one and then just suddenly got bored or something? I leant it to a friend, then it went back on the shelf with the other ones… it’s been like, years. I’m just not in a nautical mood.
The Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde it has all sorts of fun time travel/other universe travel that just keeps getting deeper and more complex each book you read. Super fun if you are a book/history nerd.
The Silmarillion. I’m kind of at a life stage now where I have so little time I don’t read books that are a struggle or that I have to “get through”. I still read complicated stuff, and I’ve read MUCH longer books, but if it’s not a joy to read I don’t spend my time on it. So I guess I don’t really feel proud of reading something that didn’t make me struggle. I also read the Sil as a teen. So it felt difficult. It’s so much easier to read with an adult brain. I just wish I had the time I did then!
