This is a fair point, but if people are going to hold that sentiment, the same has to be true for when the foreigner comes to the US. I see people complaining about Americans not assimilating to foreign cultures when they go the other way, but when foreigners come to the US, people give the Americans grief when they want the foreigner to try to assimilate.
Basically, the logic should hold for both directions. If a person thinks that Americans should assimilate to the culture when they move abroad, then they should also think that foreigners should assimilate to American culture when they move to the US. However, if a person doesn’t think that a foreigner should have to assimilate to American life, then they should also believe that Americans don’t have to assimilate to the culture they move to, if they move abroad.
I don’t really care what a person’s sentiment is on this, assimilation or not, but be consistent with it. (I’m not accusing you of this, this is just something I’ve noticed on this sub.)
I think people who watch the show, whenever they see an American-foreigner pairing, they’re going to think of 90DF, since that’s the premise of 90DF. It probably doesn’t mean anything beyond that.
