deathtooriginality@alien.topBtoBooks•Why does reading a book seem to require so much more energy than reading reddit?English

10 months agoI feel the same quite often. And I guess, as many people say, part of is that reading requires you to keep your attention all the time, while going through reddit just does not.
But a big part for me is, when I’m tired I don’t want to get emotionally invested in something. And a proper book certainly requires that. I just don’t have enough bandwidth left to read something I’m actually interested in. With reddit, even if I’m reading some high drama post, I don’t get invested in it. I finish and skip to the next. So it is easier.
Yeah, it’s like people forget that sometimes we see the bad parts along with the good ones, acknowledge them, but still enjoy the books. The fact that I enjoy something doesn’t instantly mean that I agree with and support everything represented in this book/movie/game etc
It’s incredibly exhausting because it feel like every time I say I like HP some people want me to put a huge disclaimer that “Yes, I know about all the problems with JKR and the wizarding world and I don’t support that but I grew up with those books and I still can enjoy them even knowing about problematic parts”
It’s like they believe that the whole HP fanbase, millions of people, have zero critical thinking.
