Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sorts of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, this is a gun for going out and making people miserable with.”

All Creatures Great and Small. What a wonderful, comforting book.

Every once in a while I find myself despairing over my situation in life, and that’s when I know it’s time to go reread The King of Attolia again. It’s YA, but it’s such a fun book. Series, really, but that’s my favorite of the series. It’s about a guy who gets what he wants and then realizes how much getting that cost him. Plus, I once wrote to the author (Megan Whelan Turner) and she wrote back! Couldn’t have been nicer. Very gracious.
