Really? That’s so weird—were you moving around a lot or in the same school district? I enjoyed it when we read it, but our district (in which I now teach) has a list of “reserved” books by grade level. The books on the list aren’t required reading, but basically just saying that you can’t teach LotF any other year than 10th, etc., to avoid your exact situation.

PUBLIC library. Go to the library with your damned kids and preview what they want to check out if you like. Parent your OWN kids as much as you like.
