I DNF’d The Perfect Marriage on about page 30. Terrible, terrible, middle school writing and an even worse premise.
I saw the movie in the theater when it came out. I was 16 and Michelle Pfeiffer, Winona Ryder, and Daniel Day Lewis were huge at the time. Teenage me loved the sets and costumes but I found the story boring and the subtlety went over my head. I rediscovered the book in my late 20s and fell in love.
Toss-up between The Age of Innocence, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and Pride and Prejudice. Aka: classics.
I only have multiple copies of a book(s) and that’s Harry Potter. I have the American version and the British version.
A note about Wharton: you might want to try The Custom of the Country. Different vibe than the beauty of Age of Innocence but still enjoyable.
