Just read the newest Amanda Quick novel. In the first two pages, she wrote that a character “toggled” a light switch. It hit me weird, because I would say something like flicked the switch, but toggled just seemed so random. When I think toggled, I think of a back and forth action, not a one-way, one-motion action. She used it again later in the book.
I can only listen to them in the car. I hate driving, so they help me avoid boredom, and they give me access to books I might not otherwise pick up to read. I like romance novels but not to listen to, and I like romantic suspense, but I’m more likely to listen to more challenging material, especially nonfiction. I get my audiobooks at a local resale shop, and I make a point of choosing nonfiction when possible.
If it was the one with Roy Dotrice narrating, he pronounced Brienne about five different ways, including, egregiously, Bry-EEN. Like WTF?!
You can also find out if anyone has a Little Free Library in your area. It’s kind of a grab bag, because you never know what might be in it, but it’s a take one, leave one thing. There are several in my town. I give my friend a bag of books to read, and after we switch out, I take the ones she’s read to the LFLs and trade out for new stuff. (I don’t keep books I’ve read.) It’s like a little treasure hunt.
The Far Side of Evil by Sylvia Louise Engdahl really made me think about space exploration and colonization and how war could stop if the world had a common goal to focus on instead of ever-shifting claims on various pieces of land.
I always say Hoover is the Danielle Steel of her generation.
Jaws. I’ve always said that Spielberg made all the right decisions in that movie, like cutting out the completely unnecessary affair between Hooper and Brody’s wife.
