Depends on level of commitment & focus, and time

    • high commitment, lots of time: I’m pulling out more academic books and my notebook, or whatever that needs a lot of scrutiny to even understand
    • high commitment, low time: collections of short stories or poetry
    • low commitment, lots of time: random stuff like a cozy mystery
    • low commitment, low time: at this point I’m just reading articles on my phone

  • When I was 9 my friend gave me a book she found at home that we both thought was about horses, called the valley of the horses.

It was not about horses. It was about a flowers of the attic level of unhinged (a separate encounter soon after). I had it in class with me that day, my homeroom teacher had a strange reaction but didn’t say anything. Honestly if she told me straight up that she thought it might not be appropriate it would’ve been for the best.

The change in viewpoint was – years of feeling like “I don’t wanna have a physical body much less grow up into someone at risk of pregnancy”

  • I don’t reread books a lot anymore for time reasons. Even if I like a book, I usually go digging into the authors body of work. Books that do get a reread also get a spot on my personal book shelf.

But then there’s the Percy Jackson series, esp volume 1 – it’s just comforting and sometimes I need to conjure the illusions of safety I had as a kid. Life is rough, but then there’s this nostalgic and affirming book of victories over fictionalized mythological monsters. I’ve lost track of how many times I reread this tbh.
