I read the Autobiography of Malcolm X in 24 hours when I was 18. That wasn’t uncommon for me back then when I read voraciously. Now not so much after my attention span has reduced thanks to the interwebs. If I read it now I would be hitting my phone every five pages to look something up

It’s actually got a lot of humour in it for such a dark book. I loved it.

The end of Grapes of Wrath when the girl breastfeeds the starving Okie. That’s both earthy and touching. Steinbeck was a master.
