I just reread The Godfather and loved it once again. What a great book. Fun, interesting, a page-turner. Yes, the Johnny Fontane section threw me the first time, and it still felt unneeded the second time. Maybe it’s that this section throws you a bit out of the story.

  • I have been a lifelong reader, and most people in my life did not and do not read. It’s just familiar. I’m more surprised when I find readers like me and really enjoy the connection, but it doesn’t phase me one way or the other about the ones who don’t read. When I was young, it was mostly middle-aged women who read popular novels, and they suggested lots of fun things. I seldom met people my age who read, but it was a great connection when I did.

I loved and hated it. But it stayed with me. And made me think. I kind of didn’t like that there is this buyer’s remorse on her part, later. She went along with it and even prodded it along. She kept it up as an adult. He is wrong, but she isn’t completely innocent. And that’s what makes it intriguing. It’s complicated and full of real actions and emotions.
