My dad had at least 5 copies of Stephen King’s the wastelands because he bought one, my grandmother gifted him one, he forgot he had 2 copies and bought one, and he was gifted the others because he was the Stephen King guy.

Why are people gifting book 3 in a series if they don’t know what someone has?

It is, indeed, legit. I’ve even seen some of the prints in indie bookstores.
