I have a theory that the first Paulo Coelho book you read is great. The second one you read is okay, but not as good as the first one. And then on the third book, you realize everything he writes is basically the same book with only slight variations in the pseudo-spiritual drivel.

  • 5 stars–I loved this book! I will buy a copy and I will recommend it to everyone I know. I will buy extra copies and have them sitting around just so I can gift them to people. I will leave a gushing five-star review on Goodreads. I will read it again because I LOVE this book.

4 stars–I really enjoyed this book! I’ll buy a copy or pick one up secondhand. There are some people I’ll recommend it to, if I think they’ll like it. I’ll probably read it again.

3 stars–I thought this book was fine. I won’t buy a copy; if it was gifted to me, I’ll probably keep it, but if I purchased the copy I’ll give it away or donate it. I probably won’t recommend it, but if people ask I’ll say it was fine. I won’t read it again.

2 stars–I disliked this book. By the end, I was speed-reading just to finish it so I could get it out of my life. If I own a copy, I will give it away or donate it. I will never speak of this book again.

1 star–I fucking hate this book and I’m mad I spent so much time on it. I will actively tell people not to read it. I will leave a rageful one-star review like [this] (https://imgur.com/a/UzmGa1H) or [this] (https://imgur.com/a/bPpvn4C) or this because I’m so furious at this book for existing, furious at all the good reviews for lying to me, and furious at myself for reading it. I can’t get this book out of my life fast enough and I will leave it at the bus stop just to have it be gone.

  • I was.disappointed by it, and disappointed that I was disappointed by it. I LOVED Station Eleven and really really enjoyed The Glass Hotel, but I couldn’t get over that Sea of Tranquility felt like a poor attempt on Cloud Atlas. If you’re going to attempt a Cloud Atlas, it’s got to be so much better than the original and for me, Sea of Tranquility just…wasn’t.
