In Cold Blood, second attempt

Just so bland after all that hype. I think I got to about p. 20 this time.

The writing was lovely, and I have to disagree with someone else on your post, I thought the metaphors were interesting, unusual, and contributed in a positive way. Lots of surprising and emotional moments in this novel. It took me a while to read it - skimming for plot is not the way to go with this one.

I’ve read a lot of Shakespeare and R&J is one of my least favorites for sure.

Well, I’m not sure because it’s ruined for me, but I suspect that if I weren’t trying to keep up with the class in my AP English class, I might have really enjoyed reading The Scarlet Letter. It was an absolute slog, but I thoroughly enjoyed class discussions.

Should I try again?

I love that you are encouraging your students to slow down and focus, absorb, and appreciate dense material in contrast to gobbling up the pulp that is so prevalent and so devoid of substance.
