Finished this book last week and it’s still tugging on my heart strings. Has anyone else read it? I loved it. Found out there was a movie made and didn’t care for it. Someone talk to me about it. ❤️ Much. But will watch again just in case it grows on me. Now I do expect some responses to have spoilers in them. I will tag as a fore warning.
Apologies, but your post does not contain enough for people to engage in conversation. Do you have something else to say about the book that you could edit into the text? Let me know if you edit it and I will reinstate your post.
Or, if you would prefer to share quick/brief reactions to a book you are currently reading or recently finished, you can comment in our weekly What We’re Reading thread, accessible from our header atop the sub. Your book may even appear in the sub banner! Thank you.
It is a very popular book for a reason
Recently finished reading it. Didn’t expect it to be so sad/emotional.
I didn’t care for the plot as much as others did, but the descriptions of the scenery were beautiful.
Are you seriously asking if anyone else has read one of the highest-selling books of 2018? Karma farm much?
You should know, the author witnessed (possibly participated) in a murder.
As they say, write what you know.
😬
It was a great book. I think the book was just able to capture so much more about her life on the marsh than the movie.
My wife loved it. Good thing I’m a nice dude, otherwise I would avoid tall areas with dangerous falls when I’m with her. I like how it’s not so black and white. Quite the satisfying ending too.
It’s not so satisfying in real life, where the author and her family got away with the murder of at least one innocent person. The murder the book is based on. Makes the ending a bit sour to realize that in real life it was a huge injustice huh?
I loved it! Especially the nature writing aspect of it, absolutely beautiful.
It was also high-key kinda racist, even not knowing about the murders. Finding out about the murders in Zambia, it all made sense.
This book was on my radar for a while, but when I saw the movie was going to be released I finally moved it to the top of my TBR pile. I read it about a month before the movie release.
I really enjoyed it, I’ve seen many posts and comments by people who didn’t think the ending was good, I personally think it was perfect and I can’t imagine it any other way. She learned her ethics from nature not man and did what she needed to do.
As far as the real life drama surrounding the author, I didn’t learn about it until I had already read the book, and it didn’t impact my opinion of the story in any way. I actively avoid learning about celebrities so I can separate the art from the person, it makes it a lot easier. I believe horrible people can create amazing things and I don’t want to prejudge the finished product because of the words or actions of an author, actor, artist, or screen writer. My choices would be extremely limited if I only consumed media by people I’ve researched and deemed ethical.
It has been a while, but I read it. It was very atmospheric and melancholy. Enjoyed it.
I personally think it’s disgusting that that author is making money off of making something romantic of real people’s deaths, and it boggles my mind that that isn’t a bigger story whenever this book comes up.
I did not care for it at all. It was too wordy, boring, and I found myself skipping pages.
