This lady was an absent mother to her child and left him with the trauma of growing up without a protective/loving mother. He adapted and grew up accordingly. They have a very limited relationship now. She has no place shitting on his current relationship because she dislikes the way Mary treats him. This is some major dysfunctional projection.
Also, Brandan made some comment that he hopes Mary is nice to his mom and doesn’t trigger any sort of relapse. Mary should not have to walk on eggshells or put up with his mom’s nasty attitude because his mom has an addiction.
Also, her comments about the Phillipines and the poverty made her look like such an ignorant, arrogant American. I doubt she made an effort or took any interest to learn anything about the culture or language prior to her visit - even though her grandchild is from there.
I would cut her slack if she and Brandan were really close and/or she had been a supportive mother to him. But literally all she brings to the table in his life is negativity. She failed him as a mom, and now she seems to want Mary to let him down as well.
I understand she was absent and she can’t be too surprised that Brandon has taken to Mary. Part of the reason why Brandon is the way he is, is because of his mother. She wasn’t there and he felt he only had Mary and thought she was the best thing to happen to him.
However, I don’t think it’s fair nor realistic for us to expect a mother to see a child who is obviously in a toxic relationship and then expect her to be okay or be quiet about it. Yes she may be going about it the wrong way and trying to overcompensate but let’s not act like Brandon and Mary aren’t one of the most toxic couples we’ve had on this show Plus Mary is nasty in her own right and has isolated Brandon so Im not sure why the mum should go out of her way to make Mary happy.
Yeah I have witnessed a scenario like this first hand. What Mary is doing and putting Brandon’s family through is just downright horrific and abusive. At the end of the day she should at least have respect and quit the jealous childish antics, she’s about to be a mother to a second child now I believe so should be growing up and ready to set a good example!
