I mean the show already has probably hundreds of on screen deaths.

! Mark gets raped by a woman Viltrumite, doesn’t immediately tell anyone, when he does it causes him more problems and the perpetrator never faced any consequences for the action. This was clearly commentary. I think it’s good to include it. It’s not actually trivialized in the comic and it wouldn’t be in the show. !<

I believe they will change some aspects of this section. I suppose the abuse will still be there, but they might humanize her a bit more beforehand in the show so her redemption doesn’t feel as weird as it was in the comics

Well, redemption arcs for rapists are bound to be weird anyways. I don’t see how humanizing her will change that to be honest.

Gotta tell you the only rapist that I saw on media was the Deep from the boys, so I really don’t have much experience on that.

But dunno, maybe they add the regret she feels by doing that. Not so sure. Rape is sure a very difficult topic to handle in any story

Other than The Deep in The Boys, the only other example I can think of right now is Orange is the New Black.

Honestly I hope they skip this. I cant imagine how bad the discourse will be when its adapted and I dont really like how its addressed in the story after that point. Aside from like 2 scenes, it feels like an afterthought when it should be a really big hurdle for Mark to overcome and deal with.

No way they would skip this major canon event especially with the implications that come after it.

Absolutely should not skip it. That’s just disrespectfully and hiding the fact that men can very much be raped by women

It’s a really…awkward plot point to try to navigate. On one hand, it’s a pretty bold and respectable choice to depict a man being sexually assaulted by a woman, and to deal with mental and emotional effects of that. On the other hand…its all kinda predicated on a fantastical premise. She’s an alien soldier under orders to reproduce and violence is just how Viltrumites do it.

It’s like you’re supposed to empathize with Mark and his very realistically (relatively speaking) depicted trauma, but then let her off the hook because Sci-Fi bullshit. Like I personally, can just suspend my disbelief and take it at face value cause it’s a story. But a lot of people can’t/won’t, and when you’re dealing with such dark and potentially personal subject matter, they shouldn’t really be expected to.

there’s no way people who have read the comic are having these shit-tier takes that they’re not going to put in difficult scenes like marks SA and eves abortion to the show

the reason people are so fond of invincible is because it goes where standard superhero shit does not and brings up hard discussions. they WILL keep those scenes and it’s important they do
