Okay, as a brown person, I understand that Hindu culture is very different from American culture and I’m usually pretty chill about people not understanding it. Basically l feel I am not one to take unwarranted offense (Apu on the Simpsons is considered representation to me, not racism; it’s true, we own a lot of 7-11’s 🤣).

BUT during the whole cow manure situation, for Kim to make those faces and call their rituals “DISGUSTING”. It’s one thing to not be comfortable with others traditions - but the blatant disrespect!!! SHE chose to live in India. Traditions are so sacred and close to our hearts in Indian culture. I just found her behavior incredibly distasteful.

AND SHES MAD SHE NEVER KNOWS WHATS GOING ON?? Ask!!! Educate yourself!!! She’s trying to fucking colonize these people.

I totally would have agreed with you until the episode with the cow manure and urine.

It is a pretty hard limit for most people to have excrement in a place where food is prepared. To have it come unexpectedly is even worse. I don’t think I would have been able to keep a straight face.

I honestly thought it was all staged. Wasn’t she living there for a while before the wedding? If the smell was as putrid and abrasive as she claims it was , while trying to justify her making those super rude faces, I feel like she would have noticed them doing this before. Even if she was not allowed in the kitchen she would have noticed right? I don’t know much about this religious practice so I don’t know how often they do it. But if it doesn’t happen all the time, and it’s once every few months, I feel like she could have sucked it up. But I swear it was being painted as something they do all the time and it’s like girl, how have you never noticed this.

I understand where you’re coming from, but Kim is not the brightest bulb don’t you think it was up to TJ to tell her how extreme his family is he even told the viewers that he didn’t tell her because she would leave so it’s TJ’s fault to. I think the Hindu culture is beautiful and you’re right those faces were obscene.

I live in India and I didn’t even know rituals like this are a thing! Never heard of it. So I don’t blame her. Like it or not, it is weird. I’d be dumbstruck too if I were in her shoes. It’s TJ’s fault for not telling her things beforehand and assuming she’d be okay with it all once they’re married.

I agree and as a white person married to a desi person and I’m surprised TJ doesn’t get offended on how she always complains about his culture. If I had the same attitude with my husbands traditions he would be deeply offended. She definitely doesn’t love his culture as much as states she does because she would be wanting to adopt his culture more. TJ sucks though too, especially in preparing her for this transition. He knew what the wife’s duties of the house were. He just wanted his mom to be the bad guy and made it seem that she was the only one implementing those rules and he’s just as clueless as Kim.
