Quite honestly I can’t stand only a few books that I’ve read, recently The Awakening by Nora Roberts.
Holy crap, do I reallllyyyyy want my money back. I was bored. So. Bored. The magic system was subpar, the characters just….ew, everything was so, so boring. The MC is an idiot.

My Absolute Darling. Really awful. Absolutely wish I could go back in time and unread it.

I remember being in a bookstore with my friend (they/them) and seeing them staring at a row of bookshelves where My Absolute Darling was displayed, which is when they told me their history with it.
Basically, they feel that the author based the main characters off of them, their father, and himself. They were most upset that he took the very loving relationship that they have with their dad, who is very outdoorsy but in a naturalist rather than prepper way, as inspiration for that kind of disgusting abuse.

i tried reading it multiple times and finally just gave up, everyone said it’s good, but i just couldn’t get into it and yes it’s gross and uncomfortable, not in a good or interesting way tbh
Yeah it was uncomfortable in the worst way possible. There was something about the way the author wrote THOSE SCENES that made my bones shrivel up in my body and explode.
I DNFd this book so fast. Probably never dropped a book so quickly.

I read it, didn’t think it was the worst thing I ever read but definitely did not deserve the adoration it got. Also couldn’t get over how the author clearly saw himself as both of the boy-hero characters.
