Season 2 isn’t terrible but it’s not great. They have too many plot threads and too many characters without a real understanding of what the threat is.
For example, season 1 set up Omni Man as the ominous threat waiting to destroy the earth. Each episode drove us a little bit closer to that final confrontation of him vs everything earth can throw at him with little chance of succeeding. Each episode had its own story but it carefully crafted Omni Mans threat into the story.
Season 2 is splitting the baby. We have Angstrom who is supposed to be this seasons bad guy but we hardly see him and hardly understand how much of a threat he is supposedly supposed to be. Then we have the viltrumite empire which is a threat. Then we have Omni man and whatever it is he is doing. Instead of trying to spend each precious minute driving all these plots forward, we spend unholy amounts of time on his sex life, college life and his mom just walking around being sad. Here are all the plot threads they currently have going
-Allen the Alien and apparent corruption on coalition of planets -Allen being half dead -Viltrumite disruption and the new viltrumites they introduced.
-Atom Eve doing who knows what -Martian invasion incoming? -Angstrom doing stuff -Omni man in different galaxy -Debbie dealing with grief -Mauler twin doing what? -Guardians doing what? -Martian pretending to be human -Donald being alive -Marks relationship with Amber -Cecil prepping for Omni man return -Robot and Monster Girl -Kate and Immortal and Rex…yeah -New Guardian member
In other words, this season is the Jack of all trades, master of none.
I’m not against slow burn and character development but the first season set a very distinct tone and season 2 has failed to keep up the same standard. They have so many things going on and I don’t feel like anything meaningful has happened. I don’t even know which direction we are trying to go. Season 1 has a very clear direction and I felt like each episode was closer to the big objective but season 2? No idea what we’re building up to for the final few episodes.
Is it terrible? No but it is a moderate let down compared to the first season
Couldn’t disagree more. I’d say S2 is already better than S1 and that episode 3 is the best episode of the series so far.
