So I finished, fourth wing last night and I’m totally disappointed, it’s the worst book I’ve read this year and one of the worst I’ve read in recent times, I read so many positive reviews about it that I expected a totally incredible story, nothing in the book works, the writing almost amateur( Wattapp says Hello!) character without personality, repetitive plot( I got sick of reading Violeta saying so much: I’m smaller and Brittle than everyone else) the feeling I had was that Rebecca Yarros intended to write a YA, but then because she wanted to write adult scenes (laughable by the way) changed the age of the characters to over twenty, without changing anything in the plot, all their attitudes and everything they do is as if they were 15 year old teenagers, nothing is original, the academy part sounds like a bad copy of Sabaa Tahir’s The Ember in the Ashes (it’s actually a great example of a well-written fantasy series), the dragons are a duller version of How to Train Your Dragon, the romance part is so childish and shameful, and the plot twist at the end was obvious from the beginning I know that most people loved the book and I respect that, but I would like to know if anyone else has a similar opinion.

Looks like it will be an absolutely wonderfully awful teeny bop drama.
I hate read both because of Reddit posts about how bad it was. Fourth Wing was bad but entertaining. Iron Flame was just awful.
I got so sick of Violet literally fearing for her life whenever she was around Xaden and then being like “oh he’s so hot though but I’m going to die”
Can someone spoil it for me? I read the description of the book and how she’s tInY aNd WeAk but i bet she has no problems training the dragons. Am I right?
I liked Fourth Wing and was excited for the second book. It’s so disappointing. It feels rushed, with a lot of similar B and C story lines repeating from the first book. The book expired before I had a chance to finish (though I was so close) and I am debating whether I even want to finish it. I think I’m done with the series for sure though.
I think I am going to opt out after book one. How many are planned?
I think 5, but the second book is so bad. I didn’t like the first book, but whatever it was entertaining. The second one was a slog.
I loved it. 🤷♀️ It’s one of the two books I bought a physical copy of after reading it on my kindle.
Omg thank you for this I had to bail out of the audiobook a couple hours in (already way too much time spent) bc my friends recommended it and I was waiting for it to get good. Total cringe garbagio. Happy for the author it popped off the way it did but damn I wish I could get those two hours back.
It was recommended to me a lot. The first chapter I said “this is how to train your dragon, hunger games, divergent and red rising in a book.”
I think I’m nearing chapter 10, and I’ll get through it all cause I’m stubborn, but so far it’s lacking the pizzazz I was expecting from all the recommendations.

I have read so many books this past year (or DNFd them) that are supposedly written for adults and have adult relationships but the characters and plot are very YA.
Writing all that with only one full stop is impressive tho.

It’s a by the numbers Harry-Divergent-Games-Giver clone…except with half the writing skill and next to zero charm. NONE of the characters were fleshed out (or relatable) and the protagonist was insufferable. It’s an overhyped TikTok cow patty of a book.
I think its a fun read, and it gets people reading. Not everything has to be fantastic, so many books can be so intimidating to get into but this one was like sliding into a warm bubby bath.
If you’re interested in a really good dragon riding series, may I recommend the Temmeraire series by Naomi Novik. The first one is called His Majesty’s Dragon.
I couldn’t get past the first chapter. I wanted a high fantasy book, but right off the bat, the main character has mommy issues and deep seated sibling rivalry. Pass!
Also watched an author talk moderated by Yarros where she was interviewing a different author who was promoting a book. Yarros constantly derailed the conversation, picked really boring questions, and sometimes picked questions that had already been answered in some way before. Like if you want to drink wine, promote your own work, and gab with your author bestie, do that off camera.
